Whether they’re paintings of South Brooklyn, large layered drawings of sticker- and graffiti-encrusted bar bathrooms, or linoleum prints of quiet scenes in Carroll Gardens and Gowanus, the works of these three longtime members of the Urban Folk Art® Studios collective strive to depict daily life in the city.
Don’t miss Adam Suerte‘s paintings of local landmarks like the Gowanus Canal, the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, and Hank’s Saloon; Jason Mitchell‘s detailed drawings of dive bar restrooms; and Mark Pellegrino‘s linocut prints of subway stations and neighborhood streets.
Lifelong Brooklynites, Suerte and Pellegrino grew up – and still reside – just blocks away from the Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse. Suerte met Mitchell while attending RISD in Rhode Island. After graduation, Suerte founded the Urban Folk Art collaborative in Bushwick before launching Brooklyn Tattoo in 2002.
