It is the end of the season, and we do have a reason! A reason to get together that is. It’s the New York
️New Wave Ukulele Cabaret! September 12th, 6pm-9pm. Whether you’re feeling like a day glow, fishnets, mini skirt, thrift store finery, black eyeliner, aqua net new waver. Or a gritty downtown, graffiti, skinny jeans and chucks, safety pinned to the gods smoking clove cigarettes punk post punk. Then we have the cabaret for you! You can do New Wave or New York songs, or a combo of both, any and all combinations welcome in this cabaret! As always costumes are encouraged!! Who’s like totally ready to pogo and play!?!??! It’ll be like totally awesome, like fer sure…..
For twenty years the Ukulele Cabaret has provided a stage for musicians, artists and performers from New York’s underground ukulele scene.
Ted and Jason of Sonic Uke started the cabaret in May 2005 in the back of Julius bar in West Village. After outgrowing our stage there we settled in for a residency at legendary East Village gastropub Jimmy’s 43, with cameos at Barbes, The Zipper Factory and Banjo Jim’s before moving to The Red Room at the KGB Bar — an East Village speakeasy that in 1914 was the headquarters of Emma Goldman’s Secret Society of anarchists.
