Grab a paddle and speaker and explore the upper canal!\n\n\n\n\nTravelogue: 2nd Street Sound Paddle\nDate: Sunday\, June 29th\, 2025\, 12PM-4:30PM Open Paddle (Pop-up performance at 4:30PM)\nUPDATE: We are ending the open paddle a little earlier because of low tide\nLocation: Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse\, 165 2nd St\, Brooklyn\, NY 11231 \nUnheard-of and music technologist Brian Ellis team up for the second iteration of our sound paddle\, this time exploring the upper Gowanus from 2nd street to flushing tunnel. Hear sights\, sounds\, and stories from the Gowanus at your own pace via headphones or bluetooth speaker during any open paddle. As part of the opening day\, members of the ensemble and the Dredgers will be able to guide you as you embark on your journey. There will be mini pop-ups throughout the day and a short live performance at 4:30PM in the boathouse with drinks to celebrate the opening! \n—— \nThis performance takes place on the Gowanus Canal\, from the 2nd Street Boathouse. The audience can immerse themselves in the experience on the Gowanus\, enjoying the program from on land or on water. \nWeather may postpone event. \n—— \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. \nUnheard-of’s performances are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. \n\n\n  \nWHAT IS THE CULTURAL ECOLOGIES SERIES? \nUnheard-of Ensemble\, in collaboration with the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club\, launches its newest performance series\, Cultural Ecologies\, an immersive set of multimedia concerts utilizing Brooklyn’s own Gowanus Canal as our stage. This four-show series features world premieres and cutting edge pieces by artists exploring stories of climate change\, technology’s impact on our mental health\, racial violence\, and feminism presented in a setting that brings people closer together in an open and adventurous way.

DESCRIPTION:Birding by canoe\, what could be better? Gowanus is an industrial area teeming with wildlife. Paddling along the canal and the mouth of the Gowanus bay is a great way to experience the vast biodiversity around us. [Tickets] required\, this one fills up fast! \nWe’ll head out in the morning from our 19th St. Bunker Launch site and see what kind of birds and wildlife we can find. Loyan Beausoleil will be our birding guide. Loyan is the Bird Program Manager for the Local Nature Lab and helps with the podcast of Your Bird Story\, which is hosted by Georgia Silvera Seamans. We’ll watch for water birds fishing and swooping and migratory birds hanging out in trees along the shore. Launch yourself into the Gowanus on a canoe for a musical experience inspired by the surprising\, beautiful stories of its contamination\, resiliency and recovery. \nSelf-guided tours will launch from our 19th St. Bunker (2 19th St.) from 10Am to 4PM. RSVP here for specific details about launch times.  \n  \nGowanus Canal Conservancy x Gowanus Dredgers\nDrop in at the Lowlands Nursery\, 25 9th Street\, between 11 AM and 4 PM to learn about the Gowanus Canal and visit our own Mussel Beach! Paddling along the canal and the mouth of the Gowanus bay is a great way to experience the vast biodiversity around us. Loyan Beausoleil\, Bird Program Manager for the Washington Square Park Eco Projects and of Your Bird Story podcast\, will be our birding guide. We’ll watch for water birds fishing and swooping and migratory birds hanging out in trees along the shore. If we’re lucky we might spot an osprey working on its nest! \nTickets are required to join\, check back soon for a link. Each canoe will have up to 3 people.
