SUMMARY:Inner and Outer Transformations: The Climate Crisis By Olive Toran
DESCRIPTION:“Inner and Outer Transformations: The Climate Crisis\,” by Olive Toran\, is an immersive multimedia exhibition that weaves fine art photography\, poetry\, live music\, and community climate engagement activities into a cohesive experience. At its core is Olive’s journey\, reflecting the synergy between personal healing and climate action. Invoking spiritual solutions through poetry\, song\, and music—expressions rooted in her healing journey—Olive illustrates how inner transformation can inspire outer change. This ongoing dialogue between self and environment suggests that nurturing personal well-being can spark systemic transformation. Exploring the multimedia displays invites visitors to reconnect with nature\, foster resilience against eco-paralysis\, and deepen their commitment to environmental and social change. \nRSVP HERE [free] \nSunday\, December 15th\, 2:00 pm-6:00 pm \n2-5pm Exhibit viewing and climate adaptation activity\,\n5 – 6pm live music and Q&A \n \nOlive is a force on the front line of climate action\, leveraging her 12 years of expertise as a Communication Specialist and Climate Adaptation researcher having worked in Africa\, Asia\, Europe and the Caribbean\, to drive meaningful change. Olive has dedicated herself to addressing the urgent challenges posed by human-induced climate change by crafting compelling narratives that amplify the urgency of the climate crisis and calling for collective knowledge and action to foster context specific\, people centered climate solutions. \nhttps://www.olivetoran.com/

SUMMARY:The Beginning of Swimming Season at the End of the World
DESCRIPTION:A participatory archival activation about swimming\, flooding\, and water relationships created for the 2024 Culture Push symposium. Visit the archive. Share your own water stories\, feelings\, fears\, and memories. \nThe Beginning of Swimming Season at the End of the World is part of a research and public art project about swimming\, flooding\, and water relationships called Open Water. So far the project has been conducted on the coast of Red Hook and shores of Coney Island Creek. \nDuring the symposium\, in collaboration with Interference Archive\, the Gowanus Dredgers\, Faith Toran (climate adaptation specialist\, artist)\, and Jordan Packer (urban ecologist)\, we will install an interactive archive that will change and expand through the course of the symposium. Visit the archive. Learn about water experiences and practices\, urban swimming\, and coastal ecology. Share your own water stories\, feelings\, fears\, and memories. \nWe’ll be recording anonymous oral histories\, annotating a non-scientific map of NYC waterways\, inviting additions to our incomplete climate action emergency toolkit\, and asking questions emerging from research and an ongoing dialogic and somatic exchange that has been ongoing with the videographer iki nakagawa for the past year. \nCurated by Nora Almeida
