Desire Lines and Daylighting is a new body of work by photographer Nathan Kensinger, looking at informal access points along three of the city’s larger waterways – the Flushing Creek, Harlem River, and Newtown Creek – and documenting work being done by community groups to open up public access along the waterfront.
Join The Gowanus Dredgers for a weekend of Creature Feature paddle-in movies! We're screening our seasonal favorite, Creature from the Black Lagoon, as well as a new-to-us film, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. Tickets will be available soon, register for each screening separately.
The Boathouse Jam is hosted by the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club to activate our shoreline while fostering the continued resurgence of acoustical collaborations in Brooklyn. We are inclusive of all - young & old, new & seasoned musicians. Just bring a smile and your musical instrument and/or your voice to join our one night makeshift band.

Help us clean up and close out the 2025 on-water season at the Bunker! We'll be tidying up the space, repainting some details, cleaning and repairing gear, linseeding the dock, and other tasks as needed. Dress for the weather and mess. Bring water, a snack, and work gloves if you have them!

Each year, as part of the Brooklyn Folk Festival , contestants gather on the banks of the fetid Gowanus Canal to see who can throw a banjo the farthest in the - BANJO TOSS: BANJO THROWING COMPETITION! The special "throwing banjo", attached to a rope is tossed into the canal, a federally designate Super Fund site. The marked rope pays out, showing how far the banjo has been tossed. It is then hauled back in for the next throw.
