Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club Boathouse 165 2nd St, Brooklyn, NY, United StatesDesire Lines and Daylighting is a new body of work by photographer Nathan Kensinger, looking at informal access points along three of the city’s larger waterways – the Flushing Creek, Harlem River, and Newtown Creek – and documenting work being done by community groups to open up public access along the waterfront.

We'll be tidying up the space, repainting some details, cleaning and repairing gear, linseeding the dock, and other tasks as needed. Dress for the weather and mess. Brooklyn Folk Festival: Banjo Toss Competition
Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club Boathouse 165 2nd St, Brooklyn, NY, United StatesEach year, as part of the Brooklyn Folk Festival , contestants gather on the banks of the fetid Gowanus Canal to see who can throw a banjo the farthest in the - BANJO TOSS: BANJO THROWING COMPETITION! The special "throwing banjo", attached to a rope is tossed into the canal, a federally designate Super Fund site. The marked rope pays out, showing how far the banjo has been tossed. It is then hauled back in for the next throw.
